Nolvadex, the brand name for Tamoxifen, is a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM). Unlike Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs) that block the production of estrogen, SERMs work by binding to estrogen receptors in certain tissues, preventing estrogen itself from binding. In breast tissue, it acts as an estrogen antagonist, which is why it's used to treat and prevent breast cancer. In the context of Post-Cycle Therapy (PCT) following an anabolic steroid cycle, it serves two main purposes. Firstly, it blocks estrogen receptors in the breast tissue to prevent rebound gynecomastia. Secondly, and more importantly, it stimulates the pituitary gland to release more Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), which in turn signals the testes to restart natural testosterone production. Recovering the body's natural hormonal axis is a critical component of post-cycle health and maintaining a stable biological age after a period of hormonal suppression.
